The Search for Beauty

"Am I beautiful?"

Most girls
ask it in rhetoric
confirmation of what they already
either know
     hope
or need to believe.

Some
their slender frames like coat racks
for over-sized skin
hiding what's within
think they know the answer
always, "no."

Both scenarios
leave no question for answering

Both actresses
think they know their part

But what of myself?
Who asks and waits for an answer?
I am unsatisfied with
the insincerity of this
and I really want to know,

"Am I beautiful?"
